Enrich Package Achieves Mono-PE Packaging Recyclability Certification

Enrich Package Achieves Recyclability Certification for Mono-PE Flexible Packaging
As packaging regulations and sustainability requirements continue to evolve, recyclability is becoming an increasingly important consideration for brands, manufacturers and packaging suppliers. In response to this growing demand, Enrich Package (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. has obtained a new recyclability certification for its Mono-PE (PE/PE) laminate flexible packaging following an independent assessment conducted by Institut cyclos-HTP GmbH (CHI) in Germany.
The certification confirms that the tested Mono-PE packaging structure has strong recyclability performance and falls under PPWR Category 11 | PE-Flex, supporting its suitability for recycling within the relevant European packaging framework.
Enrich Package's Mono-PE Packaging Receives Independent Recyclability Assessment
The certified packaging is a Mono-PE (PE/PE) Laminate, consisting of a transparent, unprinted flexible film that can be produced as bags in different sizes and with different adhesive contents for mono-material applications.
Unlike conventional flexible packaging structures that may combine different polymer families, a mono-PE structure is built around polyethylene. Keeping the packaging structure within the same polymer family can support compatibility with the relevant PE recycling stream.
For this certification, Enrich Package submitted its packaging specimen to Institut cyclos-HTP GmbH in Aachen, Germany, an independent institute specialising in the assessment and certification of packaging recyclability.
The assessment was conducted under CHI’s catalogue for EU-wide certification and included checks against relevant requirements, including EN 13430 for material recyclability in the post-use phase and ISO 14021 for environmental claims.
What Does PPWR Category 11 | PE-Flex Mean?
The certification places Enrich Package’s tested Mono-PE laminate under PPWR Category 11 | PE-Flex.
PPWR stands for the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, the European Union’s regulatory framework governing packaging and packaging waste. The regulation establishes common requirements covering packaging design, composition, recyclability and waste management across the EU. It began applying across the European Union on 12 August 2026.
For flexible plastic packaging, material structure is an important consideration when evaluating recyclability. A mono-material approach, such as Mono-PE, can help reduce the material complexity of flexible packaging by keeping the primary polymer structure within the polyethylene family.
This makes Mono-PE an important packaging solution for businesses looking to evaluate recyclable alternatives for flexible plastic packaging.
97–98% Recyclability With 100% Potential
According to the certification, the tested Mono-PE packaging achieved a recyclability assessment result of 97–98%.
The certificate further states that, based on the test results, the potential of the packaging amounts to 100%.
This distinction is important because actual recyclability can be influenced by factors beyond the packaging structure itself, including recycling infrastructure and local waste management systems.
The certification therefore provides independent technical evidence of the tested packaging structure’s recyclability performance rather than simply relying on a general recyclable packaging claim.
Why Mono-PE Packaging Matters
Flexible packaging often requires multiple material layers to provide properties such as strength, sealing performance, printability and product protection. However, combining different polymer types can create additional challenges for recycling.
Mono-material packaging takes a different approach by using a primary polymer family throughout the packaging structure.
For suitable applications, Mono-PE packaging can provide:
- PE-based material compatibility for flexible packaging applications
- Improved recyclability potential compared with more complex multi-polymer structures
- Flexible packaging formats suitable for bag and film applications
- Support for recyclable packaging development as businesses respond to changing packaging requirements
- Independent recyclability assessment backed by third-party testing
The right packaging structure still depends on the product, filling process, barrier requirements, sealing performance and end-use conditions. Mono-PE should therefore be evaluated based on the technical requirements of each packaging application.
